March 22nd 1985 – Leicester University
This gig was postponed from February 1985 and rescheduled for 22 March 1985, 7 days after Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Which meant they were going to struggle to follow that hype….and they couldn’t (but still a great sounding gig).
The guys were one of the bands signed to Paul Weller’s Respond label and that was how I got listening to them.
They have a Style Council come big band sound, with a cracking brass section, a somewhat different style from the week before!
This House was the single and I think at the time, I’d only heard History of the World as well. They were pretty new to touring, hence they played This House again as the encore. Also explained only paying £2 in advance for the ticket, the going rate around then was £3.50 to £4 (only Frankie Goes To Hollywood could command the extortion of £7.50 in those days ;-))
I don’t remember much else from this concert, which is a failure of memory and also shows the significance Frankie had the week before.
