Spear of Destiny – World Service Tour – 1985

October 3rd 1985 – De Montfort Hall

It was great to see Spear of Destiny tour not long after being part of U2’s Longest Day concert and to actually come to Leicester as well.

As a town of kids growing up, we were starting to realise bands often missed us out and went to Nottingham or Birmingham instead (Derby often had the same problem we did)……and yet, when bands did turn up they always got a fantastic reception.

World Service was the first album I would buy, although I knew quite a few tracks from the previous album, One Eyed Jacks, including their big hit Liberator.

Strange that they never really broke into the mainstream but maintained a cult following. As a live band, they were one of the best and the energy, musical violence and stage presence was a cross between rock and punk.

The crowd really got into this gig and was another great mosh at the front.

Off stage stuff was being rumoured about relationships with Boy George, all being denied, but this would play out much later in life when Boy George released his biography “Take if like a man” and a court case ensued.
