Soulwax 2005 ticket Nottingham Rescure Rooms

First of all – The Rescue Rooms, Nottingham. I don’t think this venue had been open for very long? Maybe a year or so? Right next door to Rock City it was a great edition as a smaller venue – capacity 450.

I’d seen Soulwax once before and they made a massive impression on me. They supported Muse on their MTV Shepherd Bush gig back in 2000, but this was the first time I’d noticed a gig near to Leicester.

The Soulwax performance was a stylish mix of drum, synth and vocals. Their music is a real pop/rock/dance mix. I love the way they mix the rock sound into synth music….the bass was pretty intense in this small venue, my chest got a good thumping workout…..I move further back in the room after 15 minutes.

Three drum kits mixed in with the synths and the dance tunes meant you couldn’t help but dance around. The Dewaele brothers came on dressed in white shirts, toghether with the dry ice and black and grey instruments and white lighting, it was a mesmeric atmosphere being created.

For me their best album was Any Minute Now and Nite Versions was taking them a bit away from where I liked their indie punky sound, this was more a dance sound and not dissimilar to their alter ego of 2 Many DJs.

Compute played and everyone went wild. It was a pretty hot venue when everyone is dancing, I was looking forward to stepping out into the Nottingham night for some fresh air! A great night out.
