May 7th 1989 – De Montfort Hall
This was a bit of a nostalgia pub outing. We used to watch Robin of Sherwood in the DeMontfort pub on New Walk, Leicester and had seen Clannad back in 1986.
This was their greatest hits tour as they had just released the “Past Present” album which was a compilation of their most well known songs and some atmospheric classics.
Ok – we were a little bit piddled at this one (something that I’m usually keen to avoid as I prefer to enjoy the concert), but we had met at the pub first. We didn’t annoy anyone in the crowd though and although singing along in places enjoyed the gig and the emotional edge Clannad have.
Clannad isn’t really a stand up and dance gig, although there one or two standing and swaying for a few songs which was fun to see.
The sound was amazing and the mix of folk instruments immense…you get many harps at gigs I go to!
Another really good concert and slightly off of my normal musical tastes, but a really nice soothing listen if every you need one.
