Gun Tour – 1990

February 13th 1990 – Leicester University

Supported by Slide (but I missed them)

I thought this might have been the “Taking on the World” Tour, but I haven’t found anything yet to verify that, so it’s just a tour for now.

Gun weren’t around for long, but came out with a brilliant album “Taking on the World” – and what a great simple name for a band!

The band were Dante Gizzi (lead vocals) and Giuliano “Jools” Gizzi (guitar), Paul McManus (drums), Andy Carr (bass) and Tommy Gentry (guitar)

Touring one album is always tricky as you don’t have many songs. Gun did well adding in three stonking cover versions, especially Prince’s “Let’s go crazy” which was delivered superbly.

I really loved the single “Taking on the World”, “Better Days” and “Shame on You” but another band that it was sad that they didn’t break through for very long. They did “Word Up” (by Cameo).

Finishing with a cover of The Sex Pistol’s “Pretty Vacant” wasn’t a bad move and left the crowd wanting more. There wouldn’t be another album until 1992 and never really made a full breakthrough.
