March 21st 1993 – De Montfort University Arena

I’m sure this happened a lot, but the advertising poster clearly spells “De Monfort” wrongly as “De Montford”………only bugged us lot in Leicester everytime it happened 😉
No way would I have listen to much of Sunscreem…….not my bag at all! But this single “Pressure” was their best tune.
The beauty of Leicester Poly…..sorry! it’s now become all posh and rebranded as “De Montfort University”, was the bar was around the outside, so you could go and have a drink and still pretend to be watching the gig, so if the band was better than you thought, you could quickly pop back on to the dance floor area…..Sunscreem were worth another pint at the bar, but the majority of the crowd seemed to like them.
This gig was instigated by my mate Geoff who absolutely loved Jesus Jones as I remember. Jesus Jones’ first three albums were pretty good albums for me, before I sort of lost the feel of their electro beats.
Liquidizer (1989) – Hits: “Info Freako”, “Never Enough”, “Bring It on Down”
Doubt (1991) – Hits: “Real Real Real”, “Right Here, Right Now”, “International Bright Young Thing”
Perverse (1993) – “Right Here, Right Now”, “Zeroes and Ones”
This gig was midway between a disco, a rave and a rock band. Some great guitar and keyboard sounds, a good indie singer in Mike Edwards.
Probably their most well known songs were “International Bright Young Thing” and “Right Here, Right Now”.
This wasn’t a long gig, I think as it was a Sunday gig, there was a curfew at 11pm, so rock and roll.
My favourite track was “The Devil You Know” (nothing to do with Kylie, thank you), which formed the middle of their show with the other hits and went down really well. It was a great dance session for us pogo-ers.
They were touring the new album “Perverse” which had the great song, “Zeroes and Ones” as well as the afore mentioned “The Devil You Know” and “Yellow Brown”, which strangely wasn’t played.
Can’t recall much else from this gig, but it was a fun and sweaty night out.
