May 2nd 1994 – Derby Assembly Rooms
Was this really my next gig after The Wonder Stuff!!!
Yep, this was a strange one! Doesn’t really fit into my categories very well, I’ve chosen “pop”, but this isn’t high on any of my thought processes as a type of music (I nearly left it as “uncategorized”).
This was a night out with a friend, the company was great, the music was….well…..better than I expected (I said better, not good).
D:Ream were an Irish band who had a big hit with “Things Can Only Get Better” and also “U R The Best Thing”…to my surprise, they managed 5 albums, quite frustrating when you see how many brilliant musicians aren’t given a chance to even get past two albums. Although it should really count as 3 and the third and fourth albums were, perversly, greatest hits albums and then one final blast in 2011.
I’m pretty sure they played both hits twice, something I haven’t seen happen at any gig before (so limited was the number of songs they had recorded). Some bands play the big hit twice, but not two of them.
So, not much to say about this gig. Positively it was fun, it was a new venue and it is only fair to record it as a live concert I attended and do have the ticket for this one. Never be ashamed of your musical choices, they all lead to something you enjoy.
